The GlenDronach has made leaps and bounds in gaining favour with the whisky consumer in recent times, stemmed primarily from a natural demand for exclusive, sherry matured styles and secondly, its overall comparative value - particularly against the likes of Macallan. A relative bargain for this quality, style and maturity.

The GlenDronach Allardice 18 Year Old Tasting Notes:

Colour: Bright deep gold with a tawny centre.

Nose: Lovely and sweet. Fudge, fruit compote and glacier morello cherries. Fabulous complexity.

Palate: Remarkable flavours of stewed fruits and all-spice. Aged Oloroso and toasted walnut bread combined with chocolate orange.

Finish: Tremendously complex and long.

Distillery Info

James Allardice established GlenDronach Distillery in 1826, it has since passed through the stewardship of Scotland's most eminent Whisky producers, Walter Scott, Charles Grant and William Teacher & Sons. In recent times, Glendronach made leaps and bounds in gaining favour with the whisky consumer, stemmed primarily from a natural demand for exclusive, sherry matured styles and secondly, its overall comparative value - particularly against the likes of Macallan.

History also has its part to play into the intrigue of Glendronach, which was mothballed from 1996 until 2001. It is said that it was over this period where the distillery lost some of its identity, with floor maltings decommissioned in 1996 and conversion to steam power in 2005 from the direct heat, coal-fired stills which has been known to produce or more flavourful, robust spirit. A decision of efficiency that many a Scottish distillery would succumb to, with Glendronach being one of the last to have maintained this method. Needless to say, expressions distilled pre-1997 are extremely desirable.

This 18-year-old expression has been matured exclusively in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks. A relative bargain for this quality, style and maturity. Distillery notes.
