About our wine panel

Steven Creber

Steven Creber

Steven Creber’s foray into wine started in 1976 as a young vineyard and cellar hand at wineries including Yeringberg, Yarra Burn and Fergusson’s in the Yarra Valley. His passion for wine saw him enrol in Wine Science at Charles Sturt University in Wagga in 1978 and would be the beginning of a life long career in winemaking and viticulture. Steven has worked extensively in vineyards around the country including Yarra Valley, Eden Valley, Sunraysia and Coonwarra, and been part owner of a vineyard in the Beechworth region.

In 1980, Steven was offered a full time job with Mildara (which eventually became Mildara Blass) and later that year was transferred to SA, to manage the production side of Hamilton's which had been acquired by Mildara. Based at Eden Valley, he oversaw the planting of an 80 acre vineyard and refurbishment of the winery there, and also assisted at Mildara's Coonawarra winery outside vintage.

In 1982, Mildara's chief red winemaker Jack Schultz and Steven put together a Coonawarra Cabernet Eden Valley Shiraz blend which won the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy - an achievement he still boasts about to this day if he's given a chance.

In the mid - 1980's, Steven Creber started a new phase of his wine journey as a Fine Wine consultant, buyer and writer, working alongside Dan Murphy himself, enthusiastically learning all that the retail icon had to teach. Steven was with Dan’s for over 20 years in two different stints in his career and recently left to get back to what he loves the most – the wine and the land. Currently, Steven does freelance work in the Yarra Valley for Rob Dolan and Mac Forbes amongst others.

Steven's wine knowledge and retail experience is boundless and we are beyond appreciative of his participation as principal wine reviewer on our panel.

Peter Willis

Peter Willis

It would be the start of a long career when Peter Willis sold his first bottle of wine in the UK in 1970 working for a small boutique Wine Merchant. From small beginnings to big ventures, he later took on a job with a national UK chain called Peter Dominic, a division of International Distillers, that saw him become the youngest manager of 307 stores. In 1974, he moved to Australia where he started work as a sales clerk at James Richardson wholesaler and was later promoted to a wine sales rep – his first step into Australian wine retailing.

Peter has held numerous senior positions in wine companies such as Tisdall as the National Sales Manager, the Victoria Fine Wine Manager at Seppelt, Victorian Sales Manager at Buller’s Rutherglen and the State Manager for McWilliam’s wines. Recent roles have been at Long Gully in the Yarra Valley as Senior Sales Executive.

He has worked in both wholesale and retail as a partner in his own successful wine agency and worked in retail outlets in Victoria gaining considerable knowledge of retail management. In September 2012, Peter accepted the role of Retail Manager at Greythorn Cellars and brings with him a wealth of knowledge that only 40 years in the liquor industry can bring.

Daniel Di Pietro

Daniel DiPietro

Daniel has worked in the Wine Industry in both Wholesale and Retail roles since completing his business degree at Swinburne College in 1990. His early years were spent on the road as a Sales Rep for Normans wines and as an Account Manager for Southern Cross who later became part of the Fosters Group Australia.

After 10 years selling wine to customers and gleaning a knowledge of the retail industry, Daniel joined the family business (Nillumbik Cellars) as the Wine, Spirits and Beer buyer. Along side his Dad, he turned the business around from a corner grocery store to one of the largest and best Independent wine retailers in Victoria, specialising in boutique wines.

In August 2012, Daniel and his wife Trish, bought Greythorn Cellars and can only hope to replicate the success of the family business bringing a fresh new approach to wine retailing.
